Rock the Block Run

We think it is important for everyone to be informed and prepared to rock it with us during Rock the Block. This week we are sharing part two of our safety guidelines with you to help you prepare for race day. Rock the Block run/walk will be held on Saturday, April 24 at Center Grove High School in Greenwood. The start time will be 8:35 a.m.

Our goal is to conduct a safe and well-directed run/walk event keeping the welfare of the athletes, volunteers, vendors and spectators a priority. We are expecting a crowd on-site at this year’s event. Participants also have the option to join us virtually and not be on site.

Know Before You Go

Tuxedo Brothers Event Management will manage this event. They have conducted approximately 10 events during 2020 with social distancing guidelines following all regulations set by the local health departments and will do so once again with this event. Update: The state mask mandate has been lifted and is now an advisory.

Participants that take part in this event are not in the upper age groups of 65+ (most are in the 10-60 age group) and all in reasonably good shape to begin with as they have been training. Being an outdoor venue with fresh air and sunlight gives us a nice advantage as well.

Any participant that is not feeling well or feels they have been exposed to anyone with the virus will be asked not to attend the event. For the latest race details please watch your email and our website for a complete understanding of the new format.

Packet Pick Up

Participants can pick up their packets on Friday, April 23 from 12:30 to 5 p.m. at Spotlight Strategies – 170 Commerce Drive, Franklin, IN 46131. Please follow signs for PACKET PICKUP/REGISTRATION entrance.

Participants can also pick up their packets on Saturday, April 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. at CGHS behind the bleachers on the home side. Enter northeast stadium gate doors where you see PACKET PICKUP/REGISTRATION SIGN. Parking available in student lots north and east of the football stadium.

Sanitation

Staff and volunteers will use sanitation wipes to clean high traffic areas such as restrooms, packet pickup and refreshment tables throughout the event. Hand sanitizer bottles will be made available in these areas, as well. A limited supply of disposable face masks and hand sanitizers will be available. All participants, volunteers and vendors should come prepared with their own PPE measures.

WAVE Starts

Wave starts will be conducted every few minutes allowing only about 100 to 150 participants to go off at one time. A designated area of about 30’ X 100’ will accommodate about 100 participants per wave and allow proper social distancing. An announcer with a PA system will announce number assignments for runners and walkers to approach the start line corral area then give them a countdown for their start. More than likely, about four to five waves are necessary with this event.

Course

The run course should not pose any problem as athletes begin to separate and create a lot of distance between each other as the event progresses – social distancing at its best! 10K participants must maintain a 12-minute mile.

Water Stations

All water stations will be ‘self-serve’ so that athletes can grab a water on the go.

Pre and Post-Race Activities

"Main Street Expo" with food and family-friendly vendors to enjoy before and after the 5K/10K. We will provide bottled water, bananas and granola bars so athletes can ‘grab and go’.

Signage

Additional signage will be in place to remind attendees to be safe. Masks are welcomed but not required. Please practice social distancing, staying in family/friend pods & be kind.

Runners and walkers are a well-behaved group that should comply with all of these rules.

Please note that Tuxedo Brothers Event Management has been conducting ‘newly restrictive’ events since June 20 with the Cicero Triathlon. These newly formatted events have been going well with good participation of athletes following all guidelines before and after the competition.
